Persian Woman

This was originally intended as a portrait. At this point I felt I had captured the beauty of this woman and decided not to take it any further. Strange things happen in drawing. I have noticed that adding hair to a portrait can change the person’s face, not always the way you might want it (for example, it can make them look older than you want). The subject in this portrait wore her hair pulled back and I would have preferred to draw her hair soft over the side of her face. The title I took from the reply the woman gave to the question “Where are you from?” “Persia,” she answered.
