Emma

I often struggle to draw a happy face. It seems I am gifted (LOL) at drawing contemplative faces which talk to the viewer. This drawing shows the importance of pose and timing. The subject in the photo seems to be asking “What do you want me to do?” The drawing failed to capture the vivaciousness of Emma. It also makes her look far older than her age. This is partly because her hair is tied back (hiding her lovely curling masses). The main reason for the aging though is my mistake in accidently blending the sanguine and white pastels to create a grey. This is a mistake only made once. Despite these shortcomings, this is one of my favourite drawings and I have kept it for myself.
